The classic British Sitcom Only Fools and Horses was written by John Sullivan and first aired back in 1981. It went on to have 7 series and 64 episodes, with sporadic Christmas specials following until the final episode in 2003 (not including Beckham in Peckham from Comic Relief in 2014).

Everybody has a favourite moment from the much-loved sitcom, and most of us know the lyrics to the famous Hooky Street theme song. To celebrate the upcoming launch of the Reliant Regal Supervan, we are sharing our top 10 moments from this British classic TV show, starring the legendary David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst.

10: The £50 Canary

Kicking off the top 10 is the moment that Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter, Rodney and Grandad, played by the late, great Lennard Pearce, believe they have killed Corrine’s canary, so the Trotter’s fork out £50 to replace the bird and act like nothing has happened. But obviously this plan goes awry when Corrine thinks her little canary has been raised from the dead!

9: Del Boy’s Poker Face

Money is at the heart of Only Fools and Horses, with the brother’s hoping to one day be millionaires (ideally by this time next year). Del Boy’s interesting Poker face lets Boycie, played by John Challis, think he has won for the longest time, before turning the tables and taking the money for himself. Obviously, this game was played fairly, with no cheating at all.

8: “If it’s a boy they’re naming him Rodney…after Dave.”

With a bet going on with the boys from The Nag’s head, Mike recruits Trigger to discover the name of Del's baby. As we all know, Trigger, played to perfection by the late Roger Lloyd-Pack, believes that Rodney is called Dave, even though he has been told countless times of the contrary. This leads to the classic line of “If it’s a boy they’re naming him Rodney…after Dave.”

7: Trigger’s Well-Maintained Broom

Another classic Trigger moment, this time explaining how he has had the same broom for 20 years (but not quite two decades). This particular broom has lasted so long thanks to its 17 new heads and 14 new handles. It begs the question as to whether a slot car with a new chassis, motor and tyres is the same slot car as it was new?

6: Inflatable Dolls

From the cleverly titled episode Danger UXD (unexploded dolls), the episode centres around blow up dolls that self-inflate, and consequently explode. In the flat, the dolls that Uncle Albert, played by Buster Merryfield, had thrown behind the bar are inflating, giving the Trotter brothers a big scare.

5: The Jolly Boys Outing

Although more of a whole episode than a moment, we had to mention the Jolly Boys Outing, set near Scalextric HQ in Margate. Leaving their council flat in South London, the Trotter’s venture to the seaside with the boys from The Nag’s Head where, as always, everything seems to go wrong, from Rodney getting arrested to the coach blowing up because of the faulty Albanian radio sold by Del.

4: Auction of the Stopwatch

‘This time next year, we’ll be millionaires’ is something Del tells Rodney will happen from their business of selling second hand cars. For many years this did not become a reality, but in 1996 as part of the Christmas specials, the Trotter’s auction off a pocket watch which make their millionaire dreams a reality!

3: Batman and Robin

Simply dressed up for a party, Del Boy and Rodney accidentally prevent a crime in the most stylish way possible, dressed as Batman and Robin. The Reliant Regal is hardly a Batmobile, especially considering it breaks down a lot, but this a top-class attempt of being superheroes that we can all get behind.

2: Del and Rodney Smash the Chandelier

Arguably one of the most famous moments in Only Fools and Horses, Del Trotter convinces the Lord of a mansion that his family business specialises in moving priceless chandeliers. In true Trotter style, Grandad unscrews the wrong chandelier causing it to plummet to the ground and smash. Good job they didn’t leave their contact details, right?

1: Del Boy Falls through the Bar

Our favourite moment must be Del Boy falling through the bar, playing it ‘nice and cool’. Classic slapstick comedy which will always be funny!
