Fans of Captain Scarlet will know that 10th July is a key date for the iconic 1967 sci-fi series. The date is mentioned multiple times in episodes such as Winged Assassin, Treble Cross and Flight to America.
The reason for this is that the writer, Tony Barwick, loved to slip his birthday into the scripts wherever he could. The cheeky storyteller is no longer with us but today would have been his 91st birthday.
So, let’s take a trip down memory lane with a look at the new Scalextric Captain Scarlet cars (coming soon!)

There were lots of different vehicles featured in Gerry Anderson’s supermarionation shows, but the Spectrum cars always stood out. There were two main modes of transport for the Spectrum organisation:
· Spectrum Patrol Car (SPC): With its futuristic design, high-speed capabilities and impressive armament, this stylish vehicle was as impressive as it looked. It had twin rapid-fire machine guns, infrared detectors and telescopic scanners, used to keep the Spectrum team inside safe. This vehicle is also often referred to as the Spectrum Saloon Car.
· Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle (SPV): While the SPC was often used in chase scenes, high-speed escapades were mostly reserved for the Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle. This amphibious machine could give chase both on land and in water and included rear-facing seats for safety. Weapons included a forward-mounted laser cannon and ground-to-air missiles.
The futuristic designs, bold colour schemes and dramatic on-screen feats ensured these vehicles were some of the most memorable to ever grace our TVs.

We’ve announced two new Captain Scarlet slot cars for 2025, both of which are due to arrive this Autumn.
The SPV and SPC Scalextric cars are must-have models for Gerry Anderson fans. With highly accurate liveries, these models emulate the unique shapes of the famous vehicles, bringing that unique design to your slot car tracks.
Both Scalextric Spectrum slot cars are compatible with standard 1:32 scale Scalextric layouts and come with two spare guide blades to keep the slot car fun lasting longer. Of course, we’ve included our innovative Magnatraction technology in each one and you’ll find working lights on both cars too.

Perfectly presenting that classic 60s styling, with a fully decorated interior on the Spectrum Patrol Car, these slot cars are intended to bring you joy.
The Spectrum Patrol Car, in particular, is likely to be a real competitor on the Scalextric track, with wide tyres and a wide flat underpan that lend themselves to speedy racing. The Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle will add that dramatic Captain Scarlet flair to your racing. Do slot cars come any cooler than this?
With a wide appeal that will delight retro toy collectors, slot car enthusiasts and Gerry Anderson fans, these are likely to be very popular when they come in stock. In fact, pre-orders are already high on both models.

Recently, there’s been a high resurgence of interest in classic shows from the 60s, particularly anything Gerry Anderson-related. Let us know which retro TV vehicles you’d like to see on your Scalextric tracks in the comments!
