HUE 166 is the car that turned Rover’s fortunes around and started the global brand phenomenon that we know and love today. A stop-gap response to steel shortage after the Second World War, this versatile vehicle took inspiration from Willys Jeep, aiming to improve on the rugged military design.
The Scalextric Land Rover Series 1 slot car model takes this iconic vehicle and turns it into a racing superstar, ideal for your Scalextric layout. Featuring the classic green livery and meticulous detail, this is a must-have for car-mad racers.

In 1948, times were tough for the car industry. With limited steel available, the government made companies prove that they could sell their cars overseas before designating supplies. Rover needed a model that they could make without steel and would show their international commerce ability.
Maurice Wilks was the Technical Chief of the company at the time, while his brother, Spencer, was Managing Director. While holidaying on their family farm in Anglesey, they dreamed up the idea of a tractor that could be used on-road. They were using a war surplus Willys Jeep at the time, but it didn’t quite offer the functionality they wanted.
They added a Rover engine and gearbox to the Jeep and then commissioned a prototype using a centrally mounted steering column, mostly constructed of aluminium alloy. It was nicknamed Huey because of its registration number: HUE 166.
Rover sold two million of these “stop gap” cars and many of them are still in excellent working order today!

As HUE 166 was a prototype, there were many adaptations made to later versions, so it was important to get this slot car design right. We’ve replicated the exact pastel green hue of the original and included the unique front grille and rugged shape that makes the vehicle such an instantly recognisable car.
Our 1:32 scale HUE 166 slot car model includes working lights and 4x4 power, making it a force to be reckoned with on the slot car tracks. Of course, we’ve added Magnatraction technology and Huey is compatible with ARC Air, ARC Pro and Spark Plug systems.
