The link between James Bond and Scalextric goes back years, with the luxurious, gadget-laden cars making wonderful subjects for slot car racers. You can find out more about the history of our relationship in this blog post from two years ago.

But, whether you’re a long-term collector looking to add to your James Bond line-up or a new hobbyist looking for a cool new race car, the newest arrival to the Scalextric garage is sure to inspire.

The Lotus Esprit Turbo slot car is a faithful replica of the car that stars for a short time in For Your Eyes Only (1981). And it has just arrived at Scalextric!

The Lotus Esprit Turbo in For Your Eyes Only

The Lotus had already enjoyed success as a Bond car in The Spy Who Loved Me, so the recently released Lotus Esprit Turbo was a natural choice for 007’s next adventure. However, the producers wanted to portray a grittier, less gadget-reliant version of the spy, so this car didn’t have all the fancy bells and whistles of previous Bond vehicles.

In fact, the only extra feature viewers get to enjoy, is the self-destruct feature. Our replica slot car represents the Lotus Esprit as it is seen early on in the film. Bond drives it to Gonzalez’s pool party, where a henchman tries to break in, activating the self-detonation.

Of course, that is the last you see of the henchman in the film, but the car is replaced in a copper colour, reuniting Bond with his car once again. The dark colour offered a dramatic contrast against the snowy background of the Italian setting.

But it was the stark white livery that caught our eye, with its bold red turbo graphics. This car is one of the most memorable from the era, with fewer gadgets than previous films, bringing an explosive presence to the screen.

Scalextric model highlights

This is the perfect choice for your next Bond slot car, which effortlessly makes the jump from on-screen carnage to slot car chaos. Extensively researched and meticulously built, the body shape and detailing perfectly match the original vehicle. And it’s digital plug ready too, so you can easily upgrade it for use with your Pro setup.

Of course, this car includes Magnatraction technology, helping to keep your elegant espionage vehicle on the Scalextric tracks for longer.

This car is ideal for both collectors and racers, standing out in a display and on the Scalextric tracks. It’s officially licensed too, making it a must-have item for James Bond fans. You could recreate any of the chase scenes from the films by purchasing one of our other James Bond slot cars at the same time.

Coming soon: James Bond Checker Taxi – Live and Let Die

The James Bond fun doesn’t end there! Expected in stock at the end of the month, the James Bond Checker Taxi is a slot car that is sure to put a smile on your face.

Instantly recognisable to fans of the franchise, the Checker Taxi is a slight departure from Bond’s other premium vehicles. He acts as a passenger in this car, rather than a driver, using the public transport vehicle to trail his suspected enemies. Little does he know, that he is actually the one being followed, with various onlookers confirming the spy’s location via phone.

When Bond spots the car he is following parked by the side of the Fillet of Soul restaurant, he exits the taxi and tips the driver. This innocent-looking cab is actually a key vehicle of the action, delivering Bond to the headquarters of his enemy, where the beautiful Solitaire and terrifying Tee Hee are waiting for him.

Our model replicates the on-screen version beautifully, bringing the classic New York taxi into your competitions. A must-have for anyone that has their eye on our James Bond slot cars, this is one to snap up as soon as it’s in stock. Of course, you can pre-order it now to secure your slot car.

Are there any James Bond slot cars missing from your collection? Which ones would you like to see in our next range launch?
